The Atlantis Demo 2000 unit being prepared for marine trials
The fabrication of the Atlantis Demo 2000 unit is now in its final fabrication phase. On the 10th of January the 220 tonn Atlantis unit was transported from the fabrication hall into the painting hall at the Nymo yard.(see pictures),
Following the painting the unit will be tranported to Stavanger in second week of February, where the external bouyancy/foam elements will be installed, adding another 145 tonnes to the unit. The foam elements, 32 all together, are being supplied by Balmoral under a contract of approx. NOK 7 mill. Following the installation of the elements the plan is to undertake the marine trials in Gandsfjorden in Stavanger in the period from 20. March to 2. April. Included in the trials are verification of towing conditions, stability check (COG), functional testing of remote operated valves, the air filling/evacuation to compartments and the instrumentation in submerged condition, deployment to approx. 200 meters for verification of Atlantis unit behaviour (lowering speed etc), ROV operations for connect/disconnect installation chains and for stabbing of umbilical bundle etc.
