The Development

The main patent covering the Atlantis Concept was received in 1996.

Atlantis Deepwater Technology Holding AS was created in 2000, when also this company took over the further development of the concept.

In 2002 the financing of the first Atlantis Unit, the Artificial Buoyant Seabed unit, was obtained. This unit was built at Nymo yard in Grimstad.

The Atlantis Unit was brought to Stavanger in the end of 2002, where the foam buoyancy elements were attached.

During the spring of 2003 the towing trials and the sub sea handling demonstration were performed in the Stavanger area.

The unit was brought to China in 2005 as part of the negotiation with China Oilfield Services Ltd (COLS) to form a 50/50 owned joint venture company, Atlantis Deepwater Orient ited (ADOL) to cover Pasific Rim and Australia. The joint venture were formed in Gebruary 2007.

As part of the agreement for forming the joint venture COLS commited to use the system for a first well. As part of the first well projec the Atlantis unit was subject to ectensive testing in July 2008 offshore southern China. The campaign for the first well is expected to take place during 4th quarter 2008, offshore south China.
